Upcoming sugery

So yesterday was Riley's last appointment before we meet with the surgeon next Tuesday. I must honestly admit that I am getting a little nervous....no I'm lying. I'm getting very nervous. I know my husband is reading this and shaking his head. As Riley's urologist put it: "going under anasthesia is safer than getting into your car and driving". I know this is true but I can't help but be nervous. The thought of sending by baby into surgery just scares me. I love my little man so much and I guess it's the mommy in me that wants to protect him. At the same time, I'm so ready to have it over with. I hate having to hold him down while Tony tapes him up and put his NAM in. His screams stay with me because I know it is uncomfortable for him.
Also next Tuesday, we are meeting with his urologist to take a look at how his hypospadius is and get an idea of how it will be repaired. Poor baby!

In other news, Tony and I just got through watching Julia and Julia. For those of you who know me, I can't cook too well. I'm getting better but I'm still not even close to being able to call myself a cook. This movie did inspire me to pick one of my cookbooks and cook through it regardless of what the receipie is (although I HATE seafood and may skip that section because I can't even stomach it). We will see though. My schedule is crazy but I think if I spread my cooking out I can accomplish my goal. Any tips from people who actually can cook??

  1. oh Kari, I will give you my same tip as always. The only way to get good at cooking is to COOK. Just like any other thing, it takes a little practice. Haha just like how I need to practice video games since i cant play them worth beans! I think going through a cookbook would be a good idea for you even if you just do one dish a week. Maybe even Rachel Ray or Sandra Lee book where the tip/tricks/recipes are quick and simple for busy people. There's also another woman with a book out.... I can't remember her name or the book (maybe it's Robin Miller? not sure) but she focuses on food that is healthy AND the idea is you make 1 big meal on say Monday and then the leftovers are turned into other meals for the next couple days. I have really enjoyed a few of her recipes. I know she has a show on the food network too. So anyway! I know you can do it! :)

  2. Also, I forgot to say that Riley will be okay :) I'm sure it's hard not to worry. Hell, my mom worried about me going under to have my wisdom teeth out at 23!

  3. hi kari as a mom of three kids i find that on my days that i am not so busy, i cook a few meals and put them in the freezer. it makes it easy to pull out and cook and also for the husband (i dont know about tony but timmothy can't cook) when mom isn't around you know they can pull it out and have a good meal. keep positive thoughts in your mind! my older boy had to have a surgery and i was very, very scared! but just positive thoughts, you know he is a very strong little guy! look how far and what he has been thru!
